Storage Wars' Star Darrell 'The Gambler' Sheets Dies at 67 — Cyberbullying Investigation Underway

'Storage Wars' Star Darrell 'The Gambler' Sheets Dies at 67 — Cyberbullying Investigation Underway

Darrell Sheets, beloved reality TV personality and fan favorite on A&E's long-running series "Storage Wars," has died at the age of 67 at his home in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.

Officers with the Lake Havasu City Police Department were dispatched at approximately 2:00 a.m. on April 22, 2026, to a residence in the 1500 block of Chandler Drive following a report of a deceased individual. Upon arrival, officers located Sheets, who had suffered what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and the department's Criminal Investigations Unit responded to assume the investigation. His body was transferred to the Mohave County Medical Examiner's office for further examination.

A Reality TV Icon

Born on May 13, 1958, in California, Sheets appeared on 163 episodes of "Storage Wars" between 2010 and 2023. The show, which premiered on A&E in 2010, follows buyers competing to purchase abandoned and unopened storage lockers at auction — without knowing what's inside. Sheets became one of its most recognizable stars, earning the nickname "The Gambler" for his appetite for bold, high-risk bids.

Beyond "Storage Wars," Darrell also made guest appearances on Jay Leno's late-night talk show and Rachael Ray's cooking series.

His official show bio captured his attitude perfectly: "While others have turned the gambling side of storage buying into steady businesses, Darrell is always going for the 'big hit.'"

Health Struggles and Retirement

In 2019, Sheets suffered two heart attacks and later underwent heart surgery. Following his health scare, he stepped back from regular appearances on the show and relocated to Arizona. He owned and operated an antique store called Havasu Show Me Your Junk in Lake Havasu City.

Cyberbullying: A Disturbing Final Chapter

Perhaps the most troubling element to emerge after Sheets' death is the revelation of sustained online harassment he reportedly endured in his final months.

In a Facebook post on March 11, 2026 — just over a month before his death — Sheets named a person he claimed was his cyberbully and stalker. In subsequent posts, he alleged that someone was impersonating him online, harassing small businesses in his town, asking locals for money while pretending to be a handyman, and that this had been going on for approximately three years. He also claimed his accounts had been hacked.

His "Storage Wars" co-star Rene Nezhoda was among the first to publicly address the issue following Sheets' passing. In a video posted to Instagram, Nezhoda told his followers that Sheets "had this guy, like, really, really tormenting him lately and cyberbullying him," urging people to remember: "Just because you watch us on television doesn't mean you know us."

Lake Havasu City Police Department spokesperson Sergeant Kyle Ridgway confirmed to Page Six: "We are aware of these cyberbullying accusations and that is a part of the active investigation."

Tributes Pour In

Network A&E released a statement expressing that they were "saddened by the passing of a beloved member of our Storage Wars family, Darrell 'The Gambler' Sheets," and extended thoughts to his family during the difficult time.

Nezhoda also paid a heartfelt personal tribute, saying it had been "an honor to share the stage with you the last 15 years," and noted that despite their competitive dynamic on screen, the two were genuine friends.

Family and Legacy

Sheets is survived by his son Brandon Sheets, who also appeared on "Storage Wars," and a granddaughter. He had long hoped to pass on his love of the storage auction lifestyle to Brandon, describing it as an "adventure and education."

Anyone with information related to his death is encouraged to contact the Lake Havasu City Police Department at (928) 855-1171.
